I was on board with progression at first, but it's not satisfying in the long run. Posted: 28 Sep 2019 11:36 PM PDT I'm the kind of guy where slow progression is necessary to keep me hooked, the Alpha had this pretty much perfect. Unless I hacked the game, it was impossible to become overpowered due to the power system. But in the Beta, I spend a couple hours in a zone and just happen to come across a legendary weapon. But it doesn't feel good, I didn't earn it by putting in effort to get that strong, it was just given to me. This is what ruins my drive to play, I have no long term goals as once you finish one region, that's pretty much the whole game and then I lose all that gear upon leaving? It's just not rewarding. All that on top of artifacts barely doing anything, barebones lore, useless factions, all quests being literally the same (what happened to the creative ones from the YouTube video and tweets?) and region locked special items. I really want to love this game, but at this rate I just can't. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 04:35 AM PDT I've been watching as an outsider looking in. I only briefly played the alpha when it was still out and largely forgot about the game over the past six years. That is until, well, it resurfaced. I'm seeing a lot of people compare this mess to No Man's Sky, but in this game's case it's the other way around: No Man's Sky was initially™ a disappointment because its developers generated too much hype. Cube World seems like a disappointment because of the community generating too much hype. Like, Jesus Christ, the hype for this game is vastly overshadowing its two-person development team who might not be even working on it full time. I've seen a lot of posts talking about how the community should just "calm down", but face it, that is definitely not going to work. Wollay needs to do something himself. If he and Pixie want this game to succeed and don't want another community disaster that'll potentially smear their reputation online, they need to do either one of two things:
Of course, there's also the option of just releasing it as is and then slowly update it as time goes along alone. If that's the case, they need to fully commit to this game to satisfy the community, which is something that many people think they can't really do. Wollay is in a difficult position here, and I really feel bad for him, but this is a huge mess that the community can't fix by telling its members to just "calm down". Bad apples are always the loudest. [link] [comments]

[Unpopular opinion] I really like the beta. Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:55 AM PDT It really saves all the effort and bother of deleting your character and remaking a completely new one once you finish the game. [link] [comments]

Just a small thing I miss from the Alpha Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:02 AM PDT I have been enjoying the beta so far. It's got some issues, sure, but nothing that can't be fixed in time. Though one thing I do miss from the Alpha is the fog of war on the map. I miss being able to discover new regions and what they are by exploring. I played the alpha to death and my favorite thing to do was pick a direction and just walk. I loved discovering all the biomes and towns along the way. Seeing my map slowly get bigger was really satisfying to me. I don't know if I'm alone in this maybe you guys thought it was annoying not being able to see everything from the jump, but I felt it added something special to exploration. Of course, I would want some updates to the system. Maybe some BOTW style towers that uncover large parts of the map or maybe a new cartographer shop in the towns? I'd definitely want the areas I've uncovered to be visible on the world map instead of just the flat blue we had when we zoomed out. Just some ideas. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:07 AM PDT With the new region-locked system, i've been thinking that we wont be able to see the PVP servers like we had before since no one will have stuff. Its really sad because the PVP was one of the thing that hyped me the most to play this game, farming the best gear possible to beat other players was so satisfying. Plus, the PVP in cubeworld was very fluid and fast pace reactions that isnt present in most RPG PVP games we have today (if they have PVP at all ^^). Hopefully the community will provide some mod tools to make the game what we waited for. [link] [comments]

Region locking equipment isn't the issue, Artifacts are the issue Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:21 AM PDT I bought this game during the alpha. I enjoyed it then, but it got stale after I leveled up, exploring got boring, and I lost interest. I didn't realize that the beta was available for those of us who had the alpha until after I had learned about the new way progression works, region locked gear, and artifacts. I've seen a lot of negativity about this, and I can understand why many people find it not enjoyable, but hear me out. In the alpha, when you completed a region, collected good gear and leveled up, the game plateaued. Everything became kind of pointless, sure there were lands that looked different, but that means the game became just a sight seeing adventure, with pointless enemies that you just had to look at to kill. This is why I stopped playing, I wanted challenge, and adventure, and sightseeing, all together. With the new region locking and artifact system, every region becomes a new adventure. It encourages the player to do the low level quests in every region, something that most players would just skip after the first region. It give the player the ability to experience all the content that the game has to offer. Many people looking at the region locked gear as something that punishes the player for exploring, but I see it the opposite way. It encourages the player to keep helping every region, to clear that forest of moles, or help that gnome escape the skeletons. The issue with the game right now isn't the region locking, look at how many people make new characters and start over in Skyrim, or every new season of Diablo 3. It's the reward for starting over that is lacking. Here is where my criticism come in, The game is not perfect, I'm not attempting to convince anyone that it is. Artifacts are a great idea, but the ones available are a bit lackluster. Exploration stats are important, and giving them a boost is great, but I don't think that they should be the only thing that artifacts should boost. Boosting combat stats, or even artifacts that boost your pet's stats would go a long way to helping the game have a more stable progression. Heck even artifacts that do silly things, or cosmetic things would be cool. Like an artifact that makes every attack have a chance to enlarge or shrink an opponent, or an artifact that gives your character a halo. TLDR; With region locking the gear, new regions become a new adventure, encouraging the player to do even the low level quests in every region. The real issue with the game is a lack of reward for starting over in each region, the artifacts need work, not the core game mechanic. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:32 AM PDT TLDR: 30+ hours, multiple regions complete. Still having fun. Just giving people some perspective. I just wanted to take some time to give some perspective on Cube World. The subreddit community is pretty negative about the beta. I'm not here to argue with those of you who are disappointed in the game and the choices that Wollay has made. I've read the complaints, and everyone has valid points. I'll be honest, if I didn't have access to the beta, I probably would not buy the game tomorrow based on the negative response. I'm glad that I do have access to the beta. In my opinion, I would have missed a great game. At the time of writing this I have 30+ hours into Cube World and have completed multiple regions. I am still having fun. Cube World for me is all about exploration. I love seeing my map get covered in little green checkmarks as I complete quests. For me the progression is exploration based, not character based. At first, I was in doubt that I would play this long. I was sure I would get bored, and that's why I wanted to make a post to give some positive feedback in this community. Tomorrow I will be purchasing 2 more copies of Cube World for my kids. I can't wait to get into a party with them and start exploring and conquering the world. I have gotten my $15-20 dollars (don't remember exact) worth that I paid for the alpha, without including alpha playtime. If anyone has any questions about my experience, I will do my best to answer them. [link] [comments]
Last Day of Beta - The Full Feedback Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:49 AM PDT Hi, I've been playing the close beta since day 1 and refrained to give feedback until today. I woke up, saw the official website release and decided to give all info I gathered so far. Good or bad. General Feeling: The game has a good premise. It's innovative in its basis, and aims for a goal that changes how we're used to playing RPG's nowadays. I welcome that. The thing is, it's poorly executed, mainly because of four things. Only four, but those were the things that impacted the most my experience and, if tweaked or better dealt with, can improve the gameplay A LOT. Problem 1 - The Artifacts I liked the Artifact system. And the premise that it gives the player more exploring power, in an RPG game, is wonderful in my point of view. The problem is Artifacts give way too little buffs when you take into account the amount of trouble you have to pass to get one. Being like this, I haven't had the will to go and plan getting more. For them to have a real impact, I'd have to get 10 or more, of one same kind. That's painful, in the current circumstances (more on that below). Problem 2 - The Lore and World If I say the Lore is non-existent, I would be very close to reality. For me to feel the need to explore, I really have to have interest in the world and it's peculiarities. But, nothing is really "alive". All the NPC's have mechanic answers, all the history points feel disconnected and there's no sense of achievement when you find about the history of the places. To get things worse, the World is also disconnected. Nothing you do in a region translates to another. Nothing. I mean, not only equipment or raw power...it really is nothing. This needs to be fixed for me to engage in this World again. Problem 3 - Immersion and Traveling When you get your first rideable pet and get to ride it, it feels awesome. Even tho the early riding speed level seems very weak, it's something and the promise of leveling it more gives you more hope to go around and know all the surrounding regions. Then, as soon as you cross a region's border...puff...you can no longer ride your mount. I mean...what?! What happened? Did I forget how to ride? How does one make the decision to go ahead with this mechanic in an exploration based game? Not only it breaks immersion, but also puts a barrier on your progression just for the sake of it. It's one the worse features of the game, BY FAR. And it translates to boats too! Holy f...okay...moving on. Problem 4 - Communication This is not in game. I think it's easy to see the developers are not well-prepared to deal with the community. That's okay. They're learning...right? Well, no. They're doing this for 6 years! Now let me tell you this: if your fan base is that passionate about your work and CLEARLY gives you critique to improve your game BY THEIR EYES, then you SHOULD at least give an answer to them. That's basic! You're doing all the wrong moves about this. Isolating yourselves, sends us the message that, despite all the political responses, the game is not made for us, THE PLAYERS. It's made for you to get some money and move on. What it tells us, even if it's not the truth, is that you don't care about what we like, you care about getting it done and moving on. If you don't see the problem in this kind of treatment, then I have nothing more to say, because you don't really care. Conclusion: The game in its actual state is playable for a brief period. Lacks content and doesn't give us motivation to continue playing. It can be fixed/improved, but there's no indication that the developers have interest in doing so. Some mechanics are poorly executed. The idea of the game is good, even tho it's not properly supported by its features. What will I do? Wait until they improve or fix those things, because I forced myself this past week to test this game, and now I have zero will to continue... [link] [comments] |
