Cube World is out on Steam.

Me showing my friend the Cube World beta for the first time

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 02:45 PM PDT

PSA: Alpha owners that got the game by activating a key, your reviews will not count towards the overall positive/negative counter.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 07:35 AM PDT

Steam, some time ago, removed the reviews of owners that got the game outside of Steam from the overall tally, to discourage fake reviews orchestrated by developers.

This means, that our reviews are still visible but don't affect the game's overall score.

EDIT: I am just as displeased as you lot with the game's state, but I don't think this was done on purpose, it is however, unfortunate.

    A handful of quick(-ish) tips

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 09:00 AM PDT

Note that this does not cover everything or things which you will find out yourself in the first few minutes of playing, but it goes over most of the stuff which is not class-specific that may make your experience more enjoyable.

    For new players:

    Recommended settings

    • Change the Rarity setting in the options menu to As stars to make gear, quests, and enemies have stars next to them indicating their rarity or difficulty (More stars means rarer / higher difficulty).
    • If you are experiencing performance issues with fairly decent hardware, try changing the CPU Usage setting in the options menu to Reduced to transfer some of the CPU load to your GPU.

    Important keybinds

    General:

    • F1 - Toggle class-specific keybind display (Some classes and specializations have different keybinds when holding Shift!).
    • F2 & F3 - Change GUI scale.
    • F5 & F6 - Change minimap scale.
    • Mouse wheel - Change minimap zoom.
    • Ctrl + Mouse wheel - Change camera zoom.
    • Middle mouse button - Dodge (You have a very high chance to be immune to incoming attacks when dodging!).

    Inventory:

    • Middle mouse down - Drop the item you are hovering over on the ground.
    • Right click - Equip a weapon or item to your left hand (if applicable).

    Map:

    • Right-click and drag - Pan the map.
    • Left-click and drag - Change angle you view the map at.
    • Middle mouse down - Place or delete marker at cursor.

    Change class specialization

    • Visit the Guild Master in a village to change your class specialization (The map icon for the Guild Master is a golden crown!).

Fast travel and respawning close to where you died

    • Different from the Alpha, you now need to interact with nearby Shrines of Life to add them as a potential respawn point. It will use the closest one you have discovered in the region whenever you die.
    • You can normally spot shrines fairly easily on your map by looking for tiny white houses or squares nearby your location. Here's one and here's another.
    • You can Fast travel to any shrines you have discovered by clicking on the blue dot on the map for that shrine.

How to play and meet up with friends

    1. Press J to open a list of your friends.
    2. Find a friend in your friends list to either invite or join (If you want to join, you'll need them to invite you first).
    3. Once you or your friend has joined, go to the nearest village and talk to the Flight Master.
    4. If you want to travel to your friend, select their head on the map and you will be taken directly to them for free! If you would prefer that your friend comes to you, tell them to talk to the flight master and click on your head.

Side note - How to get back to where you were before playing friends:

    • If you want to continue playing in an area you were at before playing with a friend, open your map and use the area navigation in the bottom left corner to quickly pan through all of your discovered areas until you are back where you were before, then select a fast travel location!
    • If by chance, you don't have a fast travel location where you were before, you can go to the flight master and use the same navigation to pan back over to the previous area, then buy a flight destination (Just a warning, this will be EXTREMELY expensive most of the time).

    For all players:

There's a good chance most people who have played a decent amount of the game will know a lot of these already, but you might learn something new!

How to get all key items (relatively) quickly

    • Talk to every NPC you can find in a village to reveal as much on your map as possible (You only have to interact with an NPC once to get their full dialogue).
    • If you have a good amount of spare coins, use the Flight Master in a village to travel to other villages in the region and talk to all NPCs there as well.
    • Talk to any NPCs you see while exploring a region. All NPCs with blue health bars can be talked to and may reveal something to you.
    • If you are still having trouble, look for unique landscapes or structures on your map. Here is an album of what some of the harder-to-spot areas can look like.
    • All named areas (excluding villages) will have an item or quest attached to them! If you have a named area on your map without a checkmark next to it, look around there some more!

    Character stat descriptions

    • Hit Points - Your maximum health.
    • Attack Power - The damage your basic attacks will do (This can be more or less depending on the enemy's resistance and what type of attack you performed).
    • Armor - Attacks towards you which do not do at least this much damage will not hurt you (Sometimes doesn't apply to attacks from mages or AoE).
    • Resistance - Reduces the damage from incoming attacks by this much (Handled after armor).
    • Critical - Your chance to do a critical hit, dealing double damage!
    • Haste - The speed at which you can attack.
    • Regeneration - How fast you regenerate stamina.
    • Mana Regeneration - How fast you generate mana.

Check how (relatively) strong you are

    • Open the inventory (B) and you will see Weapon rating and Armor rating on the left side of your screen. Use this to get an idea of whether or not you are strong enough to take on an enemy or objective until you get a feel for how the combat works.

    Getting gear

    From mobs:

    • Anything you kill that drops coins also has the potential to drop gear of the same rarity level as it is!
    • Boss enemies (any enemy with a unique name above their head) can be found anywhere in the world, will be slightly larger than normal variants of an enemy, and they always drop an item that is one rarity higher than it is! This means is you kill an Epic (Purple) tiered boss, they will always drop a Legendary (Yellow) item!

    From shops:

    • To get higher tier gear from shops, complete Rescue quests. These will allow shops in the region to be supplied with higher-tier stock.
    • The icon for rescue quests is an Elf with a green hat.

    From crafting:

    • To get higher tier crafting recipes for a region, complete Book of crafting quests.
    • The map icon for book of crafting quests will be a hammer the color of the corresponding tier of item.

    Combat tips

    • Utilize your Dodge as much as possible! You have a very high chance to be immune to incoming attacks while dodging, but there is a small window between dodges where you can still be hurt (Doesn't work against AoE attacks from mages).
    • Potions can be used to heal while moving, so be sure you always have them selected as your quick item before entering a fight.
    • Elixirs can be very useful when you feel like you just need a little more defense to get through a fight! You can craft Elixirs of Sanity to reduce incoming damage, and Elixirs of Toughness to raise your minimum damage gate!

Farming high-tier gear specifically for your class

    • If the region you are in has a Tower, you can destroy the crystal at the top of the tower once per in-game day to get a Legendary item that is guaranteed to be for your class! (You need to kill the boss of the tower to be able to destroy the crystal each day.)

How To Remove Region Locking in Cube World 2019 (Cube World Mods)

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:54 AM PDT

This about sums up the past week for me

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:53 AM PDT

My greatest problem with the beta is it was so damn close to just being amazing in my eyes

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 06:09 AM PDT

Just make artifacts more gameplay relevant, leaving progression slightly less restricted to gear only. Make exploration items permanent from the starting region, and improve as you find more out in the other regions. Have trainers who can give you skills for your class over the course of the game.

It just needed a little more consistency for me to really like it. I can even deal with having no skills or EXP. That's fine, if it was replaced by something that served the same purpose.

The release didn't fill me with rage or indignation, I'm just a bit bummed out that we were so close after so long.
