We should talk about how the community might be misinterpreting this whole leak situation and other things.

I'd really like to hear more from Wollay directly, but the community's perspectives on his development cycle seem a little misconstrued, so I'm gonna share my PERSONAL OPINION on the whole matter and if anyone disagrees please feel free to share your own perspectives or counter-points. Sorry in advance for the MASSIVE thread, feel free to just read the TL;DR or the bolded sentences:

-- First, the new leak does not mean that Wollay is going to begin developing and fixing the game in all of the ways that the community has been asking, nor does it mean Wollay's communication is going to change soon.

I feel like this is kinda obvious, but it's essentially impossible for any update to live up to the extreme anticipation for a "perfect" Cube world because there's a huge list of hopes and changes people want, and even if Wollay does manage to satisfy people with a few changes, it's very unlikely that everyone will be getting an iteration of the game they'll be happy with anytime soon, and I think people should be prepared for that. However the leak does show that Wollay is ACTUALLY WORKING ON THE GAME (woo!) and listening to community feedback to some degree while doing it, which is absolutely awesome and definitely worth getting hyped about.

As for Wollay's communication, I don't think he will be returning to giving the community any update-information or twitter posts. Wollay responding to his twitter DMs only conveys that he wants to at least communicate with fans who are still passionate about the game, but I'm not personally expecting him to return to making public progress-updates on anything until he knows it wouldn't spread misinformation.

-- Second, I don't think Wollay ever intended to lie to us about what the steam-release was going to contain, or how it was going to play in comparison to the alpha.

Although there were various twitter screenshots of content/features that did not make it into the game, Wollay never stated that the steam-release game would contain everything he's discussed adding to the game in the past. I feel it's more likely that Wollay released Cube World on steam as a product he felt players would enjoy, but didn't understand the expectations the community had for the game (which, if we're being realistic, were a little high for an indie game someone's been working on with little-to-no help) and this likely overwhelmed him when he was met with the EXTREME backlash at launch. The current content within cube world still presents players with an exciting experience with a lot of new features when compared with the alpha, and although I am equally as disappointed with the removal/revamps of features in the progression system as the rest of the community, it's clearly a product that Wollay put time and effort into while trying to satisfy people who loved the alpha.

Bringing this back to the leak, it's pretty likely that Wollay isn't sharing much of his development now out of fear of criticism or further expectations being put upon the game. I'm going to clarify upon that, because I think it's something that is majorly overlooked by people who have been disappointed with Cube World; Regardless of Wollay's emotional state, there is NO REASON from his perspective to continue to share development without a finished product when people are going to use it against him. It's bad for both him and the community. It's very reasonable to be disappointed with the lack of response to the barrage of criticisms people have constructively (and sometimes not-so-constructively) given towards the game, but it's important to recognize Wollay's position and encourage actually beneficial discussion within the community because of that.

-- Third and finally, the fact that Wollay is proven to still be working on the game confirms that he is absolutely not being a "cash-cow" and abandoning the game as people have claimed in the past.

Believe me when I say that, up until the recent leak, I really thought Cube World's steam release was going to be the absolute last update to the game. I figured Wollay had given up any further development, and I couldn't really blame him at the time with the horrible reception of the game after 6~ years of development. But now that we know development is still happening, it's extremely likely that Wollay is still passionate to work on the game, and is letting that push him forward despite the amount of people who were upset with the steam release. We should all understand he's trying his best, and support him with that moving forward.

Okay, that's everything! I'd be surprised if anyone read all that, but thanks if you did. I'm SUPER excited to see what comes next, but I'm also just happy that Wollay is still doing what he seems to enjoy. I'm hoping this will work out for both him and us as fans!

TL;DR: The recent leak doesn't mean Wollay is returning like the second coming of Jesus, but it cool that he's still working on the game and we should respect that WITHOUT putting expectations on him. Be a good community member!

[Alpha] Anyone know how to edit the right/left weapon slot?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 10:09 PM PST

I want to try a warrior equipped with a rogue 'longsword.' I know using movesets from other classes is possible, as on any class, you can spawn & equip a pickaxe that uses the one-handed weapon attack animations. I'm convinced that editing the modifier on an item (already in one of your hand slots) from 'greatsword' to 'longsword' is all you need to do to bypass the equip class restriction. I'm not too savvy with CE, I've done some stuff in alpha before, though I can't find any examples on the internet of what im trying to do here. Anyone got an idea how?
