Cube World for a second time, REALLY.

Cube World for a second time, REALLY.

    for a second time, REALLY.

To any Developer that happens upon this, Even the Wollay.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 08:18 AM PDT

To any Developer, Even Wollay: If you make a product, which people buy with their money (that they or their parents earn) then you are subject to their opinion on said product which may not be all nice. That is if you have a interest in making that product better, then listen to the people who are making suggestions from a consumer level. Disappearing for years just because 'Billy' said "he shagged your mom" (paraphrasing, replace quotations with whatever derogatory insult, slur, or threat 'Billy' may say or might have said) is bad for all the other consumers who just want to play a nice game. You may not want to listen and sift through, Ignore, block or ban all the "Billy's" out there to find the people who are being calm, level, and making suggestions without calling you the son of a Hamster. But I guarentee that you could have the potential take to make your product more appealing if you take what people are saying with a grain of salt.

CubeWorld is a case study for someone with more time, effort and care. When a developer cannot stand to be insulted by the 'Billy's' out there, the rest of the community suffers and begins to eat themselves. Before the release and even up to the 'Closed-Beta' people were happy, it was a small, niche community that really was pretty level. After and During the closed beta, people began to react volatility on both sides. Some liked it, some hated it. Who's side is more valid? Nobody is wrong for liking the Beta, nobody.

Nobody is wrong for hating it, disliking it, putting up their complaints, it was their money.

The excuse of "Paying for Alpha" is negligent at best on a Consumer level as it excuses the "Bait and Switch" tactic worse companies might use (remember Alien's Colonial Marines? Google it), the truth is you payed for a Video Game, that while it was subject to change, yes. It was a RPG with specific mechanics that appealed to people. Leveling, for one, getting better and better gear, secondly and free flowing exploration. While this has the Gear, it is missing the leveling and even that is tinged with a caviat. The game was about exploration, seeing new biomes, new enemies, finding pets, and exploring dungeons. It's now about playing in your own Sandbox until completion or you will be punished, set back to start for crossing a invisible line because the other biome looked cool.

Yes, both myself and gauging the underlying reaction of people against the beta feel punished by stepping out of our designated area. Taking away progress just doesn't feel good, it feels like if I were to continue playing I'd be playing different themes of the same biome instead of actually exploring.

With games like Mario, you go from several different biomes freely as you progress linearly (Plains, Caves, Deep Forests, Ice strewn lands, and Lava pocked level, ects) and it doesn't feel bad, you feel like you are making progress even without gear or leveling. Here it feels like you are working to fall off a cliff and start again with a penny for your reward (1% movement speed buffs, and the like, nothing that effects combat).

It does not truly feel like a RPG, it honestly reminds me of a less rewarding "Binding of Issac" which would classify it as a Roguelike which is heavily different.

Going further, I understand that being a game developer has some merit as being referred to as an Art form and yes people should feel free to express themselves artistically, but nobody needs to like it and nobody said being a Artist was all about the accolades. For every famous Artist out there, or artist that finds his or her niche there are dozens that go back to their day-jobs.

Artistic expression is not a shield to be used against consumers who bought a product, and it came out the way that almost nobody could have seen coming.

I will give Wallay credit, I do not recall ever seeing a system tried out this way and honestly I don't think I want to try another.

I got 19 hours out of this game in Beta, but hundreds of hours in Alpha. For all the people who will further try and state the replay-ability of the Beta being superior, go and enjoy your game and have fun with it, but if I wanted to start over I'd rather choose to, rather want to try a new class and level that up, or something than be forced to because I want to see the cool biome that is three "Kingdom's" Away from where any of my already rare plus gear.

    frognik's Cube World Mods

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 03:16 AM PDT

    CWModLoader

CWModLoader loads any *.cwmod files placed in the Cube World folder when you start the game.

Place CWModLoader.fip into the Cube World folder.

    Download: CWModLoader

    Weapon XP Mod

    YouTube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ny3ARgUEoE

The Weapon XP Mod changes the way leveling works in Cube World by detaching it from the artifact collection system.

Instead the levels shown are weapon levels derived from weapon rarity and each star of rarity adds 5 levels.

For example a white item starts at level 0, a green weapon starts at level 5 and a blue weapon starts at level 10 an so forth.

Hitting enemies with your equipped right hand weapon will add XP towards leveling up that weapon to the next rarity level.

You'll need 5 levels worth of XP higher than the base rarity level before the weapon rarity will increase, basically rarity increases at levels 5, 10 ,15, 20, etc.

Swapping out weapons will reset that weapon level and experience to the weapons base rarity level so make sure you level it up before swapping.

If you're willing you can over level weapons beyond the 5 star yellow rating however it'll take a lot of XP to get that far.

This mod is still in development and may have some bugs so make sure you start a fresh character.

Place WeaponXP.cwmod into the Cube World folder.

    Update 0:

    • Bed bugs ate my homework.

Download: WeaponXP_Test (Old and buggy, removed)

    Update 1:

    • Found and fixed a crash bug when XP needed was large
    • Set max weapon level to 30, 7 star rarity

    Download: WeaponXP.cwmod

(Please delete or overwrite any older version before running the newest)

    More mods to follow, someday

    Feedback appreciated.

What I THINK Wollay is doing

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 10:07 AM PDT

You all obviously know that Wollay has gone AWOL again and we haven't heard of him since the release of the game. A lot of us call him a scammer and/or that he failed to deliver what everyone desired in the span of 6 years of mostly silence.

    1. Wollay is NOT a scammer. If he was, he would not give thousands of users free keys who bought the alpha. If he was really a scammer, he'd force everyone including alpha players to re-purchase the game again.
    2. He's on a two person dev team and this is his few games that did well, which was a passion project. He had NOT been working for this finalized version for 6 years, rather, he has been working on it for a few months. Everything that was teased before the release was mostly scraped.

Of course, I don't mean to baby him and defend him, but a lot of what you guys throw at him are simply not true. Please, if you wanna hate on Wollay, hate on Wollay reasonably.

Now, here's what I ACTUALLY think Wollay could be doing during this silence of his

    1. Cooling off from all the hate and backlash, also letting it die down
    2. Reworking the game mechanics from scratch again or improving on the current. This takes time.
    3. Staying silent as he simply doesn't have a reason to speak during all this negativity that he's going through. Of course, if he's re-working the game, then we wont be hearing from him for a while.

You all can state whatever valid points you have or you can tell me that "I'm hopelessly holding onto hope", and that may be true but, only time will really tell. We all have different views on this so please don't attack me for having mine.

How I would love CubeWorld to be

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 07:42 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone! o/

I've been enjoying Cube World back in the alpha days. Recently my friends and I gave it a try again. We had so much fun exploring and completing the first map! We already knew we lose everything when we cross the border, except our "...+" items which was fine we thought back then.

But after crossing this border it felt like just restarting the game. The Artifact bonus was just too little to give us the feeling of an "stronger" start.

So I wanted to list a few things with more or less detail to it for anyone who wants to read and maybe talk about it. Everyone else can just leave now. Have a nice day! o/

In the following i will describe the Cube World I would love to play:

First we start of creating our character as normal, with the only difference being we cannot chose a class. We start the game as an adventurer, with a stick and stones as your weapons. We get a brief intro to the game. Controls, and some Lore as in " This Continent is beeing terrorized by XYZ Tribe! Grow stronger and save this Continent ".

Continents consist of 5<X<10 Zones as they are in the game right now.

The Intro leads us into the first town (while explaining the WASD movement) and we are told to talk to the chief of that town, who has an glowing orange " ! " above his head, showing he got a Quest for us! After talking to him he will reveal a portion of the usually Darkened Map and mark some low tier quests for us. we are asked to hunt enemies, collect some quest items from them, gather some wood and free a gnome by throwing stones at some chicken around him. (The easy stuff, you know?) We travel back to the town and turn in the Quest which are marked with a yellow " ? " when done and a grey " ? " when active but not completed.

Turning in the Quests gives us just enough EXP to level up to level 2. We are Introduced to the Character Stats and Ability
Skilltrees. We can level our strength and recieve a better stronger stick after getting introduced to the crafting system and using the materials we just collected in some of these chiefs quests

The Next Quests we will recieve are only marked by direction arrows into the dark, we need to explore ourselfs to find what the chief wants. We only know roughly in which direction we need to go.

So. The Character Stats can be increased by getting skillpoints by leveling up or as a reward from some quests, these give a minor increase in stats like HP, MP, Armor, Attack.

The Ability Skilltree lets us progress into different directions. We can learn active and passive Skills. The First passive skills would be "Sword Mastery", "Staff Mastery", "Bow Mastery" and "Dagger Mastery". Learning one grants the ability to wield those weapons. Same goes for "Heavy-, Medium-, Light Armor Masteries" Each of These armortypes has a different "class" mainstat.

These Weapon Masteries are the 1st Skills u need to learn to learn the following class specific skills. For the sake of shorter explanation just put all the skills currently in the game behind skillpoint "walls".

So we level thorugh quests. gather materials, craft weapons. unlock new crafting recipes from killing monsters or completing quests.

We need to clear all Zones of that Continent to unlock the super elder realm boss of the continent, which gives you 1 artifact upon killing, which can be used in the artifact skilltree.

The artifact Skilltree gives you stuff like:

    • Critrate +5% (base 5% caps at 100%)
    • Critdamage +5% (base 125% caps at 250%)
    • Movementspeed (Base 100% caps at 200%)
    • Base HP +25 (Base 100, caps at 1000 )
    • Base MP +5 (base 100, caps at 300)
    • HP Regeneration per 5 seconds (Base 5, caps at 100)
    • MP Gain from attacks, Cooldownreduction, Casting speed

These would need tons of continents to be cleared.

Weapons and Armors are bound to Continent, not Zone.

Everything i mentioned (except skilltrees) are in the game already and would just need to be rearranged. but yeah thats my dream Cubeworld :D

Thanks for reading so far :D o/

Is there a way for new players to download the alpha?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 10:23 PM PDT

Asking this more out of curiousity than anything, because I can still play the alpha version as I had the original launcher still on my computer (and downloading the steam version didn't overright anything). But I was wondering if other people were able to download the original launcher and install the alpha version of the game, or if that version is lost to the internet and only the people who still had the original launcher are able to play the alpha?

    Future of Cube World

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 08:47 PM PDT

I really do hope that Wollay expands his team a little bit so that he and them are able to respond to community feedback and backlash better than in the past. I really think this game can be amazing again if it has real progression and incentive to keep playing.

So I was gonna do a 3 star quest, the quest was that I was gonna save a gnome from some skeletons and I needed to break bone piles, well I did that before I talked to the gnome and he keeps telling me to destroy them but I already did, do they respawn or will I never get this quest done?
